Student Research and Projects
Adelphi students have access to hands-on learning opportunities that their peers at larger institutions don鈥檛 often find at the undergraduate level. They serve as lab assistants, pursue independent research, co-author papers with faculty mentors and present at academic conferences.
Annual Scholarship and Creative Works Conference
Our spring celebration of scholarship and creativity brings us together to learn and share as a community. Graduate and undergraduate research students share digital posters, give presentations and performances, and answer questions about their work. You might hear chemistry students discussing gene therapy, social work students sharing solutions for veteran housing, dance students performing a classmate鈥檚 choreography or young entrepreneurs sharing their million-dollar business ideas.

Creating Culturally Competent Teachers
Fayth Vaughn-Shavuo, PhD, senior adjunct faculty member, and Professor Pavan John Antony, EdD are co-authors of (Springer, 2022). The book presents a model to prepare culturally responsive teachers by providing a road map for teacher preparatory programs and giving valuable fieldwork knowledge for cultural responsiveness.
Dance as Academic Investigation
For Sarah Marino 鈥�25, academic research is 鈥渕ore than just textbooks.鈥� The dance major, who minored in communications, developed her craft through a SPARK summer research fellowship. 鈥淎s a dancer,鈥� she said, 鈥渕ovement is my first language.鈥�
Movement, for Sarah, is academic investigation. Through a Summer Research Fellowship from the SPARK (Scholars Pursuing Arts, Research and Knowledge) Center, she had the opportunity to develop that practice and pursue her artistic vision. The scholarship allowed her to work with other dancers and learn from them while developing leadership skills.
Transforming STEM in Higher Education
Adelphi鈥檚 Professor Lawrence Hobbie, PhD, and Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Academic Advancement Eugenia Villa-Cuesta, PhD, discuss their multidisciplinary effort to inspire diverse students to enter the STEM workforce through the STEM2 Network. This project is funded by a five-year, $500,000 National Science Foundation grant and involves collaboration with biology, chemistry and math faculty at four other local institutions.
Adelphi’s Pulitzer Prize-Winning Composer, Paul Moravec
Adelphi鈥檚 first Celebration of Scholarly Research and Creative Works video features an interview with University Professor Paul Moravec, DMA, who has created nearly 200 music compositions鈥攊ncluding the Pulitzer Prize-winning Tempest Fantasy, inspired by William Shakespeare鈥檚 The Tempest. One of his four operas was based on Stephen King鈥檚 novel The Shining.

Students at all levels have opportunities to showcase their research in publications and conferences. Faculty members regularly include student contributors in their published research, and sometimes students are even lead authors. 91国产 also facilitates travel opportunities to conferences for research presentations.
All students are invited to present projects at Adelphi鈥檚 annual Scholarship and Creative Works Conference, held on our Garden City campus each spring. Hundreds of students share posters, oral presentations or performances of their work with the community, and classes are canceled to allow full attendance at this special event.
Adelphi expects our affiliated researchers and principal investigators to uphold the highest standards of ethics. The University and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) have approved policies to help ensure adherence to all legal, ethical and safety requirements set forth by various authoritative agencies.
