300 high school journalists attend the prestigious event

The day-long event featured a panel discussion by distinguished journalismÌýprofessionals on the future of journalism along with smaller group discussions.ÌýStudents also had the opportunity to submit examples of their work for the QuillÌýAwards competition, and winners were honored at the March 20 event, held inÌýthe University Center.

“Despite all the gloomy reports about the state of the media, journalism is alive and well. It’s just in a state of flux,” Prof. Mark Grabowski, who hosted theÌýevent, told attendees. “It’s an exciting time to be a journalist. You have a chanceÌýto be pioneers.” Grabowski was joined on the panel with adjunct faculty Sal FallicaÌýand Liza Burby, Delphian editors Brett Spielberg ’13 and Stephen Levine ’14, andÌýJason Molinet, regional editor of Patch.com. Spielberg alsoÌýwas actively involved in the organization of the event.

The day was capped by the presentation of theÌýuniversity’s Quill Awards. Student newspapers wereÌýawarded the prestigious Quill in some dozen categoriesÌýincluding best newspaper and best reporter.

The Communications Department, Office of PublicÌýAffairs and Marketing & Creative Services organized PressÌýDay, which is the largest outreach event sponsored byÌý91¹ú²ú.
