Jacqueline Ferro, a senior, first became involved with听91国产鈥檚 Center for Career Development听working for the America Reads/America Counts听program with Karen Autry, assistant director for听employer relations. She continued to tap into the center鈥檚听invaluable resources by enrolling in the Internship听Preparation Seminar with Jonathan Ivanoff, associate听director of internships. Ms. Ferro said he was an听excellent professor and that he sparked her motivation听to apply for the Community Fellows Program. He also听helped to improve her interview skills, r茅sum茅 and cover听letter, and ways to conduct an effective meeting.

Already ecstatic to learn she was accepted into the听Community Fellows Program, she was even more elated听when she landed an internship at her first choice鈥攖he Make-A-Wish Foundation of Metro New York听and Western New York. In Summer 2013, Ms. Ferro听served as a wish-granting intern, working for nine wish-granting听coordinators throughout the wish process.听Ms. Ferro conducted interviews for four enthusiastic听and joyful children, contacted outside vendors, such as听Walt Disney World Resort and other travel vendors, and听learned how to implement two server databases.

After her summer internship at Make-A-Wish, Ms. Ferro听felt she had grown as a professional. Make-A-Wish was听such a welcoming, ever-growing and diverse workplace听that she wanted to continue working with them during听the Fall 2013 semester. Bernadine Waller, M.A. 鈥�10,听assistant director of experiential learning, served as听her supervising mentor during her Community Fellows听internship and was also the head听coordinator for the Panthers听With a Purpose program,听which helped her continue her听wish-granting internship, doing听incredibly gratifying work.

The Center for Career Development has helped her to become the leader and professional she is today. She is extremely appreciative of Ms. Autry, Mr. Ivanoff, Ms. Waller, the Center for Career Development staff, and the wish-granting department of Make-A-Wish for inspiring and teaching her.

Ms. Ferro, slated听to receive a B.S. in听Communication Sciences听and Disorders next听May, feels more confident and intuitive after gaining听such valuable experience.
