Adelphi's aim is to foster a culture where every member of the University feels valued, supported and inspired to achieve individual and common goals. This includes providing opportunity and access for all people.

Black History Month is a period of reflection, one that can be as painful and solemn as memories of our nation's history—which must be told in all of its complexities to educate, inspire and heal—are relived. Despite the distressing historical realities faced by the Black community, Black History Month also gives us a platform to celebrate the contributions, triumphs and advancements in spite of adversity. It is a time to honor the many contributions both past and present.

Lezai Favors, a senior majoring in sociology, is projected to receive her BA in May 2022, then continue for an additional year in the Scholar Teacher Education Program (STEP) for her MA in Childhood Education.

Adelphi's Summer Pre-College program will return to an in-person format for Summer 2022. The program is open to rising sophomores, juniors and seniors in high school.

For the fourth year in a row, 91¹ú²ú has won a top national award for its commitment to fostering diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) on its campus.

Career success is more probable when built from a solid foundation. Because they attend the AACSB-accredited Robert B. Willumstad School of Business, our students clearly recognize that their academic credentials and the knowledge they will accrue during their business studies constitute a robust architecture from which to construct their careers.

As a teenager, Olivia Maybee, a senior, always had a passion for activism. She was born in Buffalo, New York, and grew up on the Cattaraugus territory, one of three territories that make up the Seneca Nation, located just south of Buffalo.

In the Spring 2021, Carolyn Springer, PhD, associate professor of psychology, was named the new director of the Center for African, Black and Caribbean Studies (CABCS). When Izabelle Pinzon, now a senior, came to 91¹ú²ú, she missed the diversity of her high school and having a place to meet, socialize and share East Asian cultures with other students.

Transgender Awareness Week runs from November 13 to November 19 this year and for the second consecutive year, 91¹ú²ú will hold events for the entire community.

Individuals, institutions and Houses of Worship from around the world will leave their lights on as a symbol of mutual responsibility and the shared struggle against antisemitism, racism and hatred. Watch the video.

Ern Knox ‘75 came to 91¹ú²ú first as a commuter student from Roosevelt, and later as a resident student, to study psychology. He found a strong community in the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, the first Black fraternity on Long Island, as a member of its second pledge class. SharRon McCoy-Knox, an aspiring nurse, commuted from Freeport. SharRon was actively involved in student life and had a role in establishing the first Black sorority at 91¹ú²ú, Alpha Kappa Alpha.

Adelphi's Muslim Student Association (MSA) offers a place for Muslim students from all backgrounds and cultures to embrace their faith, participate in activities and connect with one another.

National Coming Out Day is October 11 and, this year, 91¹ú²ú celebrated it with a series of events over several days.

Nola Jackson, 59, of Brentwood, New York, was 30 credits away from earning her 120-credit BA in Social Science in 91¹ú²ú's College of Professional and Continuing Studies (CPCS) in 2014 when she became ill and was unable to work or attend classes.

The Equitable 91¹ú²ú Action Team was formed in the summer of 2020 to help create and sustain an inclusive campus community. Formed by the Division of Student Affairs, the team consists of faculty members, administrators and students. Now is a great time for students to join and use their voices to bring forth change on campus.

This fall, 91¹ú²ú welcomes a landmark first-year class. A record 1,330 new students joined our Panther family, from 34 states and 23 countries. More than 300 transfers and 820 graduate students are continuing their academic journey with us this fall in our eight world-class colleges and schools. And we are joined on campus this year by 30 of our first community college students through our innovative Nassau-91¹ú²ú Gateway program.

Leading our "Many Voices. One 91¹ú²ú." message is the renowned poet and our Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Jacqueline Jones LaMon, JD. Her welcome-back-to-campus campaign features banners across our main campus highlighting the diversity of our student-led organizations. They promote our vibrant and engaged community and the voices and experiences of all our students.

Responses to the political tensions of the past year and the ongoing coronavirus pandemic will take center stage at 91¹ú²ú's Fall Arts Festival.

Earlier this year, 91¹ú²ú co-debuted an interdisciplinary series that combined art and social action to engage people in transforming society.
